For directories of resources, please visit the​ Metro United Way Community Resource Directory or LouieConnect. For those in Hardin County or the surrounding area, please visit the United Way of Central Kentucky Resource Directory. 

You can always call 2-1-1 to speak with a United Way representative as well, no matter which county you live in.

The resources below are listed in regional categories for quick reference - though some agencies (such as Big Brothers Big Sisters) may serve multiple areas or operate on both sides of the river. "Jefferson County" resources can refer to those serving Greater Louisville and surrounding counties - often in Indiana as well. The "Hardin County" resources refer to those serving Hardin, Grayson, Larue, and Nelson counties. "Southern Indiana" is specific to the communities in Clark, Floyd, & Harrison counties.

  • ​Goodwill Cars to Work: Goodwill Cars to Work connects Kentuckians with affordable transportation options to help them maintain or upgrade their employment, move out of poverty, and improve their quality of life.
  • Transit Authority of River City (TARC): Serving the Greater Louisville region, TARC has 43 public transportation routes across 5 counties in Kentucky and Indiana.

​Hardin County
  • ​Central Kentucky Community Action Council: CKCAC is a non-profit agency delivering vital programs and services to low-income citizens in the Lincoln Trail District.
  • Transit Authority of Central Kentucky (TACK): Serving Hardin and Meade counties. TACK provides transportation services for veterans, seniors, non-emergency medical transportation for those on Medicare, and the general public.
  • Helping Hand of Hope: Transportation Assistance for Hardin County residents with out-of-county medical appointments.

Southern Indiana
  • ​TARC3: Paratransit that operates in both Louisville Metro & Southern Indiana. TARC3 is a shared-ride, door-to-door service for any individual with a disability who is unable, as the result of a physical or mental impairment to board, ride, or disembark from any vehicle on the TARC system which is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.

  • South Louisville Emergency Food Options: Click for a long list of food pantries, hot meals, free community dinners, and mobile pantries around South Louisville.
  • Area Community Ministries: For Louisville residents living west of 9th street and north of Broadway.​
  • JCPS Food Service: National school lunch and school breakfast program. JCSP also sponsors to the summer food service program.  
  • Portland's Pantry: Located at 3713 W Market St in Louisville, Portland's Food Pantry provides food to those in need. They can be reached at: (502) 778-3641. ​
  • SNAP: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, helps low-income people buy food for healthy meals at participating stores. Call the DCBS Family Support toll-free number at (855) 306-8959 to start an application or applications for SNAP may be started on-line. 
  • Dare to Care Food Bank: Oversees a network of community food banks, mobile pantries, fresh stops, and eat-in kitchens.  ​Serves Louisville Metro area / Southern Indiana.

Hardin County
  • Helping Hand of Hope
  • Sign of the Dove Church- Radcliff
  • Glendale Road Church of Christ: The church has a food pantry available for those in need that is open on Mondays between 8-10am. 
  • Central Kentucky Community Action Council​: CKCAC is a non-profit agency delivering vital programs and services to low-income citizens in the Lincoln Trail District.
  • Meals on the Bus: A free summer food program for children throughout Grayson County. Contact the Grayson County School District for up-to-date information and route information. 

​Southern Indiana​
  • Harrison County Food Pantries: Harrison County Community Services provides a list of Dare to Care Mobile food pantries, churches and food pantries that provide assistance, and where to find free hot meals. ​
  • Center for Lay Ministries: Serving Clark Co., residents; open 6 days a week & is a client's choice pantry. 
  • Northside Christian Church: Open twice weekly to anyone in need, located in New Albany. 

Bill / Rent Assistance

  • Catholic Charities Sister Visitor Center: An emergency assistance program that provides the most basic of human needs: food, clothes, assistance with rent, utilities, furniture, and medicines. For all Louisville residents living west of 9th Street and north of Broadway.
  • Lifeline: Is the federal government's program to help make communications services more affordable for low-income consumers. Eligible households (meeting 135% federal poverty guidelines) can subscribe for just $9.25 a month. Services are managed by a contracted vendor; in Greater Louisville one option is Assurance Wireless. 
  • ​Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): Helping Jefferson County residents stay warm and safe. Applicants must be Jefferson County residents with a household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • Internet Essentials from Comcast: Affordable, high speed internet for those eligible for public assistance programs like the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI and others.
  • Community WinterHelp: Winterhelp Service Partners are organizations that provide service to families in threat of utility disconnection during the winter months.
  • South Louisville Community Ministries: May be able to help with a portion of utility bills.

​Hardin County
  • Central Kentucky Community Action Council​: CKCAC is a non-profit agency delivering vital programs and services to low-income citizens in the Lincoln Trail District.
  • Internet Essentials from Comcast: Affordable, high speed internet for those eligible for public assistance programs like the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI and others.
  • Helping Hand of Hope: Rent must be 30 days late with landlord notice. If rent is not 30 days late, you must have a court eviction notice. For utility assistance, you must have a disconnection notice or past due cutoff notice.
  • Community WinterHelp: Winterhelp Service Partners are organizations that provide service to families in threat of utility disconnection during the winter months.

Southern Indiana
  • The Community Action Partnership: CASI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to support and empower families and communities striving to reach self-sufficiency. They are able to coordinate utility assistance via the federal government's LiHEAP program.

Housing / Homelessness / Evictions

  • Sister Visitor Center: The Sister Visitor Center is an emergency assistance program that provides the most basic of human needs: food, clothes, assistance with rent, utilities, furniture, and medicines. For all Louisville residents living west of 9th Street and north of Broadway.
  • Coalition for the Homeless: The Coalition for the Homeless’s mission is to prevent and end homelessness in Louisville. The Coalition has over 30 amazing member agencies that work collectively to serve the homeless in the community. They provide housing, food, clothing, health care, and legal services to thousands of Louisvillians each year.
  • Center for Women and Families: The Center for Women and Families provides trauma-informed advocacy and support for individuals, families and communities affected by intimate partner violence and sexual assault. They provide emergency shelter, traditional housing units, sexual assault services, and operates a crisis response hotline.  
  • Red Cross: Disaster relief and recovery. Call for immediate assistance or to find open shelters after an emergency. 
  • Louisville Urban League: The Urban League’s Center for Housing and Financial Empowerment (CHFE) department empowers families with tools and information to help combat housing inequalities. They offer comprehensive housing counseling services to help equip families with the knowledge and support necessary to address their housing goals, improve their financial situation and avoid experiencing the crisis of mortgage foreclosures.

​Hardin County
  • Sign of the Dove Church- Radcliff: Women's shelter offers five beds and one crib in two rooms; men's shelter has 5 beds. Food pantry and service referrals also available. (270) 351-3550.
  • SpringHaven: SpringHaven, Inc. is the primary domestic violence program site with a domestic violence shelter for the Lincoln Trail Area. They serve victims of domestic violence and their dependent children in Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson counties, and more.
  • Communicare: Passages Women's Transitional Housing is a transitional housing program for homeless women struggling with chemical dependency. 
  • Hardin County Habitat for Humanity: Check your eligibility and apply for homeownership. 

​Southern Indiana
  • Exit 0: Homeless outreach program associated with the Christian church that supplies support, nutrition assistance, hygiene products, and support. 

Job Assistance

  • KentuckianaWorks Career Center: Helping adult and youth job seekers find good jobs and careers, along with the education and training needed to succeed. 
  • SummerWorks: SummerWorks develops Louisville’s young talent by helping prepare and connect youth to summer jobs, career opportunities, and supportive networks.
  • Louisville Urban League: LUL's Center for Workforce Development helps families to become economically stable. Individuals looking for a job or a better career opportunity are provided with employment search assistance, career counseling, job skills training, job placement referrals, and post-placement support.

​Hardin County
  • KentuckyWorks: Employment resources for youth, families, and people with disabilities.
  • Helping Hand of Hope: Job readiness and job placement.

  • Helping Hand of Hope: Providing beds for children. 
  • Glendale Road Church of Christ: The Caring and Sharing Center houses donated clothing and other household needs. The center is open on Tuesdays from 4-6pm. The center also provides a meal and bible study for interested clients.

Southern Indiana
  • St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities: Marie’s Community Distribution Program offers curbside delivery of clothing, diapers and other essential items for parents. 

Access to Healthcare

  • Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program: The Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) is free health insurance for children younger than 19 who are residents of KY without health insurance. Children in families with incomes less than 213 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible. Those eligible can apply online or call toll free 844 407 8398.
  • Open Arms Children's Health: Open Arms meets the medical, dental and behavioral needs of children, including those who have special needs. With services located under one roof, families do not have to drive from appointment to appointment. Children can see a doctor, dentist, or behavioral health therapist by simply walking from one exam room to another.
  • ​Sister Visitor Center: The Sister Visitor Center is an emergency assistance program that provides the most basic of human needs: food, clothes, assistance with rent, utilities, furniture, and medicines. For all Louisville residents living west of 9th Street and north of Broadway.
  • Shirley's Way: The mission of Shirley's Way is to provide financial support to individuals under medical are for cancer or other diseases.

​Hardin County
  • Community Healthcare Clinic: The Community Health Clinic’s mission is to provide basic health/dental care, prescription assistance, advocacy and education to those who remain uninsured or who are underinsured residents of Hardin, LaRue, Meade, Breckinridge, and Grayson Counties.
  • Helping Hand of Hope: Prescription assistance- client needs to contact the Hardin-Larue Co. Community Clinic first.​

Southern Indiana
  • CHIP Indiana: The portal for Indiana's Child Health Insurance Program,  which provides no-cost or low-cost health coverage for eligible children. These programs provide health coverage so that they can get routine check-ups, immunizations and dental care to keep them healthy.

Holiday Meals and Assistance

  • Sister Visitor Center: The Sister Visitor Center is an emergency assistance program that provides the most basic of human needs: food, clothes, assistance with rent, utilities, furniture, and medicines. For all Louisville residents living west of 9th Street and north of Broadway.

​Hardin County
  • ​Helping Hand of Hope: Affordable Christmas in which parents are able to select and purchase their children’s toys at a reduced cost, while kids enjoy activities the church provides. Helping Hand of Hope also offers a more traditional Christmas Assistance program through Central Kentucky Rods and Machines Club. The Club will “adopt” several children and deliver clothes, toys and food to their homes before Christmas. Thanksgiving meal assistance also available. Please check application windows at least two months prior to each holiday, as slots fill up quickly.

  • ​Seven Counties Services: A full range of mental health and substance use disorder services to help you get through the tough times and live your best life. 
  • Home of the Innocents: Behavioral Health Services providing hope to children who have mental health and behavioral needs. Various programs can be provided at home, in school, in the community.
  • Bridgehaven: Provides community based psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery services, education, and support to those living with mental illness.

​​Hardin County
  • Communicare: Offering behavioral health clinics, drug and alcohol services, community habilitation and vocational services, and crisis stabilization for children and adults.  
  • Brighter Futures LLC: Offering individual, group, and family therapy. They also provide court related needs including mental health assessments, trauma assessments, and children's risk assessments. Community and parent trainings on parenting, mental health, social and emotional development, and Early Childhood Mental Health also available. 
  • Central Kentucky Community Action Council: CKCAC is a non-profit agency delivering vital programs and services to low-income citizens in the Lincoln Trail District. 
  • Silverleaf: A healing place for those impacted by sexual trauma. 
  • SpringHaven: SpringHaven, Inc. is the primary domestic violence program site for the Lincoln Trail Area. They serve victims of domestic violence and their dependent children in Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson counties, and more.
  • ​Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health Center: Offering inpatient and outpatient services for psychiatric concerns, chemical dependency, and dual diagnoses. Also offering an inpatient program for military members/veterans and for adolescent girls that have dealt with trauma (Willows Program). 

Southern Indiana
  • Baptist Health Floyd:  Baptist Health Floyd offers psychiatric evaluation and treatment for individuals struggling with  behavioral disorders and conditions.

Academic Assistance / Tutoring

  • Educational Justice: Educational Justice strives to end educational inequity by pairing a 5th-8th grade student with a high-achieving high school student for long-term academic mentorship aimed at both improving academic performance and providing a meaningful student leadership experience.
  • Upward Bound: Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
  • JCPS Help Line: The JCPS Call Center ensures families and students have access to correct and consistent information as quickly as possible, with a dedicated help line operated year-round.
  • Louisville Urban League, Project Ready: Project Ready is an out-of-school-time program that prepares students for a successful high school to college transition. Project Ready focuses on college and career exploration, STEM-awareness, individual goal planning, academic enrichment, leadership development, social skills, and service learning.

Hardin County
  • Panther Place Program: Panther Place is an after-school program for students in the Elizabethtown Independent School District in grades 1 – 5. The program is funded through United Way and the school district. The program operates each school day, Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
