Real Match Stories
Research shows that all youth benefit from a supportive, caring, and consistent role model in their life, no matter their life circumstance.*
“She has taught me to be more open-minded and that we can find common ground and similarities in people of all ages and backgrounds.” - SAMTEC Mentor (School-to-Work program) "Oh, she's perfect." - Little Sister (Site Based program) “I like how he teaches me that cops are nice.” -Little Brother (Bigs in Blue program) |
“ My child was very hesitant in the beginning to trust somebody he didn't know. They had a connection in the beginning, but his Big took it very slow, there was a lot of anxiety in the beginning and after that they were great. It's amazing to see, they seem like they've known each other their whole life. My child will hug him when he leaves. The match has been a huge blessing in our lives." - Parent (Community Based program) |
A BIG Influence...
At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we value research. We ask our match participants to use self-reporting surveys so that we can measure match relationships, family demographics, and what our Little's needs are, as they change over time. While data shows that our youth may face a variety of challenging factors, our Littles remain resilient, caring, and compassionate youth. Although our Little's previous life experiences do not change after being matched, Bigs have powerful influences on our Little's feelings of self-worth and their ability to form relationships.
Our Bigs help our Littles ignite their power, reach their potential, and find their purpose. With this partnership, our Littles are more likely to have educational success, avoid risky behaviors, achieve higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships throughout their lives.
