Tis the Spooky Season: Where to Find Halloween Trunk or Treats in the Louisville Area

Fall in Louisville means cooler evenings, costumes in progress, and the question every family asks around this time: where are we going trick-or-treating this year?

Trunk or Treats are a great answer. Community organizations and local business host open gatherings, usually in a parking lot, where kids walk from car to car collecting treats from decorated trunks. And families get a safe, well-lit way to celebrate! Many events add games, crafts, food trucks, and other activities for all ages.

Where to find a Trunk or Treat near you

Our friends at Louisville Family Fun have put together a full, regularly updated list of Trunk or Treats around Kentuckiana, sorted by date. Christine Vaughan, who wrote the post, describes the goal of these events as providing "a safe environment for trick-or-treaters on or around Halloween." Their list includes events at businesses, churches, parks, and community centers across Louisville.

Tips for a great Trunk or Treat night

  • Check the details before you go. Times, locations, and entry requirements can change, so confirm on the host's page or social media. Some events ask guests to bring a canned good or other donation.

  • Look for what fits your family. Some events happen in the daytime, some in the evening, and some are designed to be sensory-friendly. Pick the one that works best for your kids.

  • Plan for comfort. Wear shoes that are good for walking, and bring a flashlight or glow sticks for after dark.

  • Bring a bag for treats and a little extra patience. Lines can form at popular events.

  • Take photos, but stay together. Parking lots get busy, so agree on a meeting spot just in case.

Want to make a difference beyond Halloween?

Every child deserves a community that shows up for them, and that's what we do at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. Our mentors spend time with Littles in Louisville and Southern Indiana, whether that's a trip to the park, a homework session, an ice cream outing, or just a good conversation. That consistent friendship helps young people build confidence and see what's possible.

Become a mentor. If this season has you thinking about how you could be a positive presence in a young person's life, we'd love to talk.

Invest in a Future Built on Mentorship. Your gift helps us match more kids with caring mentors and support those relationships long-term.

Know a family who could use a mentor? Let them know that BBBSKY is here for the youth and families we serve.

From all of us at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana, have a safe and happy Halloween season!
