You can support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana (BBBSKY) by joining the new young professionals council: BBBSKY’s Emerging Leaders Council (ELC). The ELC is intended to cultivate the next generation of young professionals seeking meaningful philanthropic leadership experience. The ELC is designed to expand awareness, increase financial support, and strengthen community engagement in a manner consistent with the organization’s strategic plan.

Applications are open now through May 1, 2026.

Joining the Council

    • Age range typically between 25 to 40

    • Email address and valid driver’s license

    • In a professional field and wanting board experience and access

    • Willingness to support youth mentorship through recruiting, fundraising, and networking opportunities

    • Minimum annual commitment of $120 ($10 monthly donor) OR be an active matched Big

    • Must live or work in one of the following counties: Jefferson, Shelby, Oldham, Bullitt, Hardin, Grayson, or Nelson, KY or Clark, Floyd, or Harrison, IN

    • Must sign a BBBSKY confidentiality agreement, pass a background check, adhere to nondiscrimination policy, and complete Fundamentals of Youth Protection training

    • One fiscal year commitment (July 1 – June 30) with a 2-year term limit

    • Using the ELC calendar, participate in a monthly event that may include:

      • Attend 4 out of 5 ELC meetings

      • Help raise funds for BBBSKY from the next generation of funders and attend fundraising opportunities

      • Help plan a Bowl For Kids’ Sake event, restaurant giveback nights, and Lunch & Learns

      • Recruit new volunteer mentors and attend recruitment /community opportunities

      • Attend one Board of Directors meeting/social a year

    • Explore becoming a Big

    • Be a part of BBBSKY – a strong and reputable, national, nonprofit brand

    • Free branded swag

    • Network with current board members and other young professionals

    • Gain understanding and experience of a nonprofit board

    • Learn fundraising and event planning skills and strategies

    • Invitation to BBBSKY events

    • Build relationships with local businesses and community partners

    • Free community event attendance when representing BBBSKY

    • Build your network through BBBSKY connections with the community and local organizations

About The Emerging Leaders Council

The BBBSKY ELC is intended to cultivate the next generation of young professionals seeking meaningful philanthropic leadership experience. The ELC will provide opportunities for engagement and understanding of nonprofit function and mission while serving as an asset to the volunteer recruitment and fund development of the agency. The ELC is designed to expand awareness, increase financial support, and strengthen community engagement in a manner consistent with the organization’s strategic plan.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana’s Emerging Leaders Council operates under the authority of the Board of Directors and staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. A designated staff member and board representative will provide guidance and ensure alignment with organizational priorities. The ELC will not have fiduciary oversight but can recommend ideas and be an ambassador for the agency in the community. All fundraising activities, public-facing events, and communications must align with BBBSKY policies, brand standards, and strategic priorities.
